The finance sector is experiencing significant transformation due to technological advancements, changing market dynamics, and regulatory shifts. The latest trends in finance show that the job market has changed considerably. Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (IIMK) has launched a Postgraduate Programme in Finance (PGP-Finance) to enhance business education. This program aims to provide candidates with the essential skills to drive growth in the financial services industry with an MBA in Finance.

The PGP-Finance program is a comprehensive two-year master’s curriculum designed to prepare students for careers in various finance areas, such as corporate finance, investment banking, and wealth management. Developed with input from industry stakeholders, this program addresses the demand for skilled finance professionals in India and South Asia. Its mission is to cultivate trustworthy, experienced, and ethical experts well-versed in contemporary finance models and methodologies.
IIM K PGP Finance program has six terms. The first year focuses on fundamental finance topics and requires students to complete 54 credits. After this year, students are expected to participate in a six—to eight-week summer internship, a key component of the academic experience.
During the second year, the focus of the MBA Finance subjects shifts to more advanced courses and electives, accounting for 48 credits. IIM K PGP- Finance students are required to complete a minimum number of Finance credits as a mandatory requirement. These elective subjects meet industry requirements, preparing students for the core financial sector.
The IIM K PGP-Finance program also includes a week-long international immersion designed to expand participants’ perspectives and offer a global outlook. Completing this immersion is a requirement for earning the degree. Participants are responsible for their travel, lodging, and associated costs related to the program.
At IIMK, summer internships and final placements for the PGP, PGP—FIN, and PGP—LSM programs are integrated, resulting in a comprehensive placement report from the committee. This report highlights the companies, roles available, and average salary packages for all three programs.

The IT and Analytics sector contributed 15% of job offers, featuring esteemed recruiters like Accenture Technology, Amazon, and Microsoft. Many of these offers were focused on Product Management positions.
Operations accounted for 6% of the total offers, with key players like Amazon and Coca-Cola actively recruiting. New companies like Apitoria and P&G also opened up several roles within this sector alongside established firms like Tata Steel and Diageo.
Sales and Marketing made up 10% of the offers, with major corporations such as HUL, Johnson & Johnson, and Samsung extending job opportunities to graduates.
India has become increasingly important in global supply chains due to its potential as a manufacturing center, vast pool of technology professionals, and robust digital public infrastructure. Despite a general downturn in global venture capital funding, India remains an important region to observe.
According to talent platform Foundit (formerly known as Monster APAC & ME), the job market in India is projected to expand by 9% by 2025, driven by key sectors such as information technology, retail, telecommunications, banking, financial services, and insurance (BFSI). Hiring in finance and accounting is anticipated to increase by 8%, while human resources is likely to see a rise of 7%. This growth reflects a greater emphasis on digital tools, regulatory compliance, diversity, and enhancing employee experiences. This presents a promising opportunity for IIM K PGP Finance graduates to meet the rising demand for specialised skills in the finance industry.
