IPMAT vs JIPMAT: What are the Differences Between the Two?

Introduced in 2011, the Integrated Programme in Management has since grown into a premier option for ambitious students looking to develop the right management skills early in their careers. The IPM promises a certified holistic approach that inculcates strong foundational knowledge of business and management principles in students and nurtures them to be sound business leaders down the line. It is a five-year undergraduate programme that combines three years of BBA and two years of MBA into an integrated course.

Many IIMs, including IIM Indore, IIM Rohtak, IIM Ranchi, IIM Jammu, and IIM Bodh Gaya, offer this course. But all of them have different exams and eligibility criteria. IPMAT vs JIPMAT – a look at the differences

Syllabus

The IPMAT Indore syllabus is divided between the quantitative ability and verbal ability sections. 

• The QA section covers maths principles from the 10th,11th, and 12th grades. 
• The VA section covers English grammar, verbal skills, reading comprehension, and vocabulary.

The JIPMAT syllabus is divided into three sections as follows:

• The QA section covers basic high school maths principles, much like IPMAT. 
• The data interpretation and logical reasoning, or DILR section, covers skills and aptitude that employ your ability to think logically and creatively to build innovative solutions.

Exam pattern

The IPMAT Indore exam pattern consists of three sections:

• Quantitative Ability (MCQ) – This section tests students’ abilities to analyse problems, deduce data, and generate innovative solutions in a limited timeframe. 

It has 40 questions and 40 minutes to answer them all. 30% of the total weightage is given to this section. 

• Quantitative Ability (Short Answer Type) – This section has no negative marking and allows the aspirants to showcase their creative problem-solving skills. 

There are 20 questions to be answered in 40 minutes, accounting for 35% of the total weightage. 

• Verbal Ability – The communication skills of students in the English language are brought to the fore here. 

It has 40 questions, 40 minutes, and 35% weightage. 

The JIPMAT exam pattern also consists of three sections, albeit structured a little differently. 

• Unlike IPMAT, there are no short answer questions here. But the logical reasoning section is expanded to include data interpretation questions. 
• There are a total of 100 questions and 150 minutes to attempt them all. Incorrect answers are graded negatively at – 1, and right answers are awarded +4.

Application fee

The IPMAT fee for the General and NC-OBC categories is Rs. 4130, while for SC, ST, and PwD, it is Rs. 2065.

The JIPMAT application fee for General candidates is Rs. 2000, and for SC, SC, PwD, and transgender is Rs. 1000.

With a total IPM seat intake of just 270 students for all three colleges combined against over a lakh of total applicants, IPMAT Indore and JIPMAT are very competitive exams.
